ALOE AND DOGS BLOG

I thought you might like to see the Blog on aloe and dogs that I published on www.blogger.com on 14 March 2008. So here it is:
My reason for blogging on aloe and dogs is that Aloe has been life-changing for both my Beardie, Sam, and for me. It was because of him and his stiff limbs that I discovered this unusual-tasting drink!
I’d better mention here that I think his limbs had stiffened because he half-lived in water that was freezing cold more often than not. You see, our home was on a Welsh peninsula so Sam was surrounded with temptation all year. Perhaps when he was born his mother told him he was a fish. He certainly often acted like one. Whether she did or she didn’t, Sam loved frolicking in the sea, rivers – and mud, the smellier the better! So by the age of eight he was a bit arthritic. I was sad to see his exploits limited by his stiffness, but still unreceptive when my eldest daughter arrived for a visit and said help was at hand. Eyeing the yellow tub she held out to me, I asked suspiciously: “What kind of help do you mean?” Joanna explained that the tub’s Aloe Vera contents had helped her IBS and could now help Sam’s arthritis. “How?” I asked, seeing no link between the two conditions. Her answer was that the Aloe drink had natural anti-inflammatory properties and that I simply needed to trust her – and pour some on to Sam’s dinner! It seemed that she was a firm believer in aloe and dogs as well as humans. Well, after questioning her further, I saw no harm in doing as she suggested – but didn’t expect any benefits either. The fact that Sam didn’t object to the Aloe on his food surprised me quite a bit, since he was very finicky. I was soon in for some more surprises … After two or three weeks the difference in Sam was so marked that I was not alone in noticing. It was as if springs had been attached to his paws – and his Beardie bounce was back. My fellow dog-walkers started asking me what was happening and I hardly knew how to answer. So I muttered: “It must be the drink!” – which they naturally found misleading. One thing led to another and once I’d explained about the Aloe I started collecting customers. My first was a Rottweiler, my second a rabbit and my third a cat. When they all benefited for different ailments (arthritis, blow fly eggs and cystitis) I started to sit up and take notice! So I did some research into Aloe and dogs (and other animals) and started on a journey that continues today. That journey has brought special people and animals into my life who wouldn’t be there otherwise and I’m now in the process of creating an Aloe For Dogs And Humans website that – if you are an animal-lover – I think you will like. You’ll find Sam and me and plenty more besides. Some of the 40 pages completed so far are quirky, some simply factual and others informative. We both hope you’ll pay us a visit! Postscript: I'm glad to add that plenty of people are doing just that. So aloe awareness is spreading well!

... it seemed like a good idea to ask him to write his own account about how he found the healing benefits of Aloe affected his stiff limbs. So I asked him and he was most obliging! You can find the result by clicking on the relevant link. The trouble is, once he had started writing there was no stopping him. I reckon he'd decided that there can be more than one writer in a family.)
