This may well be because Rex Maughan, the man who founded it all those years ago, is himself about as positive as it’s possible to be. Rex is still the President of FLP. And he is still very ‘hands-on’, constantly travelling around the world to mix informally with distributors in 130+ countries. They say, don’t they, that the person at the helm of a company affects its whole identity for better or for worse? I’ve certainly noticed this knock-on effect in practice throughout my life – and never in a more upbeat sense than with Forever Living Products.
POSITIVE RECOGNITION I could hardly believe it early on when I received public recognition from the U.K’s Managing Director for a relatively minor achievement! That was a ‘first’ for me – and I was over 50! When I joined FLP I had very little self-belief. I had certainly submerged many of my earlier dreams. So I was quite unprepared for a Company that actively encouraged dreaming. Not only that, but there seemed to be a means of achieving even big dreams via the products and the business opportunity … Was this for real? Quite frankly, I doubted it, believing I’d heard it all before – and that there was a catch in there somewhere. Well, I suppose there is a catch! It’s a four-letter word called WORK. Let’s face it, nothing comes for nothing (except, of course, the rare lottery win) though there seems to be a popular misconception that networking is some kind of get-rich-quick scheme. There’s even a school of thought that by joining a network and recruiting a ‘superstar’ one can sit back and let him/her do all the slog to bring in a massive income. That may be how they do things in Fantasy Land. It isn’t how Forever Living Products has grown year-on-year, right through booms and busts, to its current international status.
But back to that four-letter word … This is a business and, to achieve serious incomes, needs to be treated as such. Treat it as a hobby and a hobby is what it will be. Work at it and you can literally choose your income. If that sounds far-fetched to you, join the club! It certainly sounded pretty far-fetched to me, back in the beginning. However, this really is a company that gives us choices – lots of them. We choose whether to join, whether to work, whether to quit when the going gets tough (as it sometimes does) or whether to continue through the toughness until we achieve success at a level of our own choosing. The freedom to choose is quite astonishing – or was, for me. I was also astonished to find that the word ‘work’ did not just apply to my business, the basics of which were very simple: use the products, develop belief in them, talk to people. We could talk about the benefits of the products, or about the opportunity, or both. The choice was ours and nobody else’s. No pressure was ever brought to bear on me to do anything I didn’t want to do. But I’m sidetracking again from that ‘work’ word! Guess where I found the majority of work needed to be focussed … ?
DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF? Yes, on myself! Remember my lack of self-belief? That had to be addressed almost before anything else – and I had no shortage of help. At Forever Living Product’s monthly Success Days there’s a book stand with every imaginable kind of self-development book, tape, CD-Rom and DVD. So I began to read … and watch … and listen. And in the doing I grew as an individual and as a distributor. I began to see possibilities everywhere instead of impossibilities. I began to have more belief in ME. For this almost more than anything else I shall always be grateful to FLP. I am also profoundly thankful for the special people I’ve met through this opportunity, for the fact that I am now a Senior Manager and will continue to be unless/until I advance higher. There’s no going backward with Forever Living Products (even if I decide to take the next 5 or so years off) – only forward. I’m glad to help people with their health via the products and with their wealth via the opportunity. I’m thrilled to watch members of my team blossom as they leave their debts behind and find a freer way of life. I’m often quite emotional to see them being recognised by our M.D. for their achievements and feel that I played a part in their success. You see, we work together as a team, helping each other both from above and below while backed by FLP’s unstinting support and comprehensive local and national trainings. This is not about joining a company and then being left to go it alone.
I’m especially glad to have found an ethical organization that delivers on its promises, encourages personal growth and gives each and every distributor an equal opportunity to change their life and positively SHINE. That, for me, sums up Forever Living Products.
WHO ARE FOREVER LIVING PRODUCTS – AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
This year (2008), Forever Living Products celebrated their 30th birthday. So they are well established as world leaders in two main areas: Aloe Vera and Bee Products. Now trading in 130+ countries, they are the world’s largest growers of Aloe Barbadensis Miller (the potent Aloe Vera that has long been of most use to man) and also own 500 square miles of beehives. Their patented stabilisation process ensures that their Aloe is essentially identical to the inner leaf gel. So freshness is assured. Their Aloe is also free from herbicides, pesticides, pasteurisation, freeze-drying and heat treatment. HOW DO FOREVER LIVING PRODUCTS DISTRIBUTE THEIR PRODUCTS? They have a worldwide network of distributors who are in essence wholesale customers of the Company. These distributors are self-employed owners of their own businesses within the protective ‘umbrella’ of FLP. It’s rather like having a franchise, except without the overheads franchises usually bring. Distributors are the sole ‘middlemen’ between the manufacturer and the consumer. This system is very effective in terms of excellent customer service and of giving distributors an outstanding opportunity to sack their boss and, literally, earn what they’re worth. It’s a simple business, but ‘simple’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘easy’! To succeed, distributors need to be self-motivated with a positive attitude and willing to dream big dreams. They also need to work hard, especially at the start, when they’ll probably be laying the foundations of future financial security alongside an existing part- or full-time job.
FREEDOM TO CHOOSE But they are strongly supported by an IIP Company that believes in giving its distributors real freedom to make their own choices. When I began using the products on my Beardie Sam (and eventually myself) that’s all I did. I had no intention of selling them (I didn’t think I could sell!) and certainly not of building a network. Over several years one thing led to another, though, and in the end I chose to test my leadership potential by sponsoring a team. I made my choice on my own, with no pressure whatsoever either from Forever Living Products or my sponsor. Had there been any pressure, I would quickly have resisted it! I chose to attend the local and national trainings arranged by the Company for their distributors’ benefit. These helped me see the bigger picture and realise that this really was a limitless opportunity. While climbing the Marketing Plan I could actually choose my income – and achieve it, given an attitude of “I can and I will”. The potential rewards are many and varied – especially once the key position of Manager has been achieved. For those that want them enough to put in the necessary commitment and effort, seriously huge incomes are attainable. And distributors can build their businesses in any one (or all) of the 130+ countries where Forever Living Products have a presence.

CASH-RICH & DEBT-FREE! Incidentally, far from being a ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ kind of Company Forever is cash-rich and totally debt-free. When they enter a new country, Rex Maughan (the President and CEO) always buys – for cash – with the first year’s profits a prestigious Head Office to demonstrate that FLP is there to stay. Here in the U.K. our Head Office – Longbridge Manor, near Warwick – is a Grade II listed Elizabethan Manor House with its own lake and (I’m told!) a resident ghost.
