WHAT IS MLM?
So, what is MLM? There are many misconceptions about multi-level marketing. Let’s look – very simply - at what it is, as well as what it isn’t! I think we’ll start with what it is not: It is: Here’s how all this works: What is MLM? 1. The term ‘multi-level’ marketing means exactly that! Instead of one person doing everything, in the traditional sense, MLM is about lots of people each doing a little bit. Having carefully selected the ‘right’ Company, with the ‘right’ products (preferably consumable ones, so that customers will keep coming back for more), you register as a distributor and become your own best customer. Why wouldn’t you do this, given that you presumably believe in these products (or are developing your belief) and are now in the enviable position of being able to buy them at wholesale, instead of retail, from your very own ‘shop’? Then it’s about wearing two hats – recommending the products conversationally (not selling in the accepted sense) to friends and family initially, and telling people about the MLM opportunity. N.B. Not all at once and, most importantly, in the right rather than the wrong way! How do you know which is the right way? Well, I’ve already mentioned teaching, training and empowering - all of which will be provided by your MLM Company and by the person who enabled your registration, assuming of course that you’ve selected your Company well! This, in essence, is how you build your smallish customer base and your much larger group of distributors, all of whom you’ve helped to do as you are doing. The beauty of duplication is that over time (realistically give it 3-5 years) your group grows both in width and in depth until it reaches several levels. And the bottom line is that, if you've prepared the ground well, you will ultimately (whether you yourself are working or not) be receiving bonuses (i.e. passive income) on the businesses of distributors in your 'empire' that you don’t necessarily even know! Which is at the root of what I meant by ‘true financial security’. What is MLM? 2. What did I mean by an ‘inverted’ pyramid? Well, picture this, if you will: a pyramid that has been turned the wrong way up. So, the point is now at the bottom instead of in its traditional place at the top. And that’s where everyone begins in multi-level marketing – yes, right at the bottom! So it’s a very fair and level playing-field. We all start on our own, or with a partner, at the lowest level of our marketing plan … and work our way up. Note that word ‘work’ – plenty of which comes in, especially in the beginning while we are serving a sort of apprenticeship and learning necessary new skills. As we learn these skills, achieving new positions, these achievements are publicly recognised (or they certainly are with Forever Living) and we give ourselves a pay rise. Yes, that’s right – as a direct result of our efforts we now have a new status and additional income! And so this continues. By our own efforts and successes in achieving pre-set goals we rise higher and higher on the marketing plan – until we reach the very top (if we want to and are prepared to give it the necessary commitment). Look again at that upside-down-pyramid – and note how much room there is at the top! Within Forever Living this is truly unlimited. When a distributor in any one of the 135 countries where we now have a presence reaches a place that has never been reached previously our President and C.E.O – Rex Maughan – simply creates a new position for him or her. Yes – Rex honestly does! What is MLM? 3. I think I have now demonstrated how this is not a selling business in the usual sense. Yes, we move product (a lot of product at that!) but we do it very differently from those employed as ‘salespeople’. It is important to remember that we are self-employed (with all the tax and other advantages that self-employment can bring). We are each our own boss. We choose our hours and (backed by effort and commitment) our rewards. We achieve through learning necessary skills and then teaching these to others – helping and empowering them! So - what is MLM?
